Robert L. McVay Sr., 83, of Rockford, Illinois went to meet Jesus on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 peacefully. He was born 1940 in Cobb, Wisconsin. Bob came to Rockford, Illinois when he was young. He went to Morris Kennedy and Nashold School in Rockford, Illinois. He became the ranger for Lowden Boy Scout Camp from 1969-1971. Bob helped build the Byron Power Plant as a pipefitter from 1975-1981. He retired from Ipsen International as a machine builder in 2002. Bob loved fishing, hunting and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He had a race car and raced it at Byron and Joliet. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He married Sandra Potter in 1959 and they shared 63 years of marriage together.
Survivors include wife, Sandra Potter; 5 wonderful children, Robert (Kim) McVay, Jr., Curtis (Helen) McVay, Gregory (Terri) McVay, Brenda (Barry) Doyle, Vickie (Darren) Sheets; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; number of nieces and nephews. Uncle Bob enjoyed being special mentor to Allen, Mike and Mark McVay. Predeceased by parents, Albert and Elsie (Shady) McVay; son, Robert L. McVay, Jr.; brothers, Albert, Richard, William, Roger, David; and sisters, Patricia and Judy.
