Richard C. Oakley, 89 of Rockford passed away Friday June 24, 2022 with family by his side. Richard was born on July 23, 1932, the son of Charles and Mable (Darby) Oakley. He married Stella Childa on May 7, 1966 and she preceded him on December 10, 2014. Richard was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service and a veteran of the U S Army. Richard was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Beth Eden United Methodist Church, the YMCA Retired Men's Group and the Belvidere Moose Club. He was an avid bowler and a beloved CUBS fan. Richard loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog “Precious”. He was generous, gracious and was an all-around great guy that will be missed by everyone.
Richard is survived by his daughters: Sherri (Kurt) Seitz and Wendy (Frank) DeRosso; grandchildren: Keesha Oakley, Tasha Soward, Jennifer Foreman, Joc Bodin, Myron Oakley and Broc Seitz; several great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mable, wife Stella, daughter Kathleen Oakley and sister Beverly Stephens.
In lieu of flowers, donation can be sent to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
Graveside services to celebrate Richard’s life will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday June 29, 2022 at Willwood Cemetery 7000 West State Street in Rockford with Pastor Chris Bradshaw officiating. Advantage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
