Richard E. Binger, 86, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 17, 2024. Born on August 1, 1938, in Rockford, he was the cherished son of Rease and Martha (Rude) Binger. Richard proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from September 27, 1956, until September 1958. On September 9, 1961, he married the love of his life, Judith Rose, who preceded him in death in 2001. Their love was eternal and unwavering.
Richard dedicated 51 years of his career as a manufacturing engineer at Barber Colman/Pfauter-Maag/Gleason Cutting Tools. He was a proud member of the Venetian Club for 22 years, enjoying many games of bocce. His hobbies included bowling, where he was affectionately known as the “Papa Coach” for the Saturday morning youth league, as well as golfing and fishing. Richard was also an avid sports critic, known for his competitive spirit.
He is survived by his son, Michael Binger; granddaughters, Karyssa Binger and Emily Binger; brother, Rease Binger; and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Judith, sisters Jean Mayborne and Joan Johnson, and brother Frances “Hank” Binger.
A visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 West State Street, Rockford, IL 61102. A graveside service with military honors will follow immediately at Willwood Burial Park.
