On the Spring equinox of 2024, Michael Austin Tisdial transcended to the lush fairways of the hereafter. Born July 8, 1954 in Oakland, California, Mike spent his early childhood in numerous places, typical of any military kid. With his father’s mid-1960’s Air Force retirement and beginning of a civilian career he moved the family to Rockford and Mike remained there throughout his life. After his graduation from East High School, Mike was employed at various companies in various industries. His skill in sales and love of working outdoors led him to a long career at LawnCare By Walter, Inc. As good as his sales skills were, Mike’s golf skills were even better. On the course, he displayed that rare combination of power and deft touch that only the virtuosos possess. The accompanied photo appeared on the front page of the Rockford Register-Star in January of 1986. The paper's photographer was sent to get pictures of the Rockford Park District’s Polar Bear Open. They selected Mike because his red jacket would add a splash of color. Little did he know that he would capture one of the sweetest swings to ever grace Sandy Hollow Golf Course. And that swing was always the same, no matter the season. Mike is survived by his two children, a large band of golf brothers and hundreds of friends and acquaintances. Predeceased by his parents and a sister.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Lombardi Club, 209 Olive St, Rockford, IL 61107.
