Luther Rainer, Sr., 95 of Rockford parted his earthly life on Thursday, February 10, 2022, peacefully with his loved ones at his side. He was born on April 10, 1926, in Bolivar, Tennessee to Algin Jarrett and Gertrude Woods. Luther lived 74 years in Rockford. He married the love of his life, Idella McLin, on June 28, 1963. Luther was viewed as a father figure to many outside of his children and was affectionately known as “Papi”. He was known for his gentle manner in speaking to others. Although Papi didn’t talk much, when he did, he always had something wise to say. On May 6, 1973, Luther became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He touched the lives of so many, especially while serving as an elder for the past 31 years as he gave support and encouragement to his local congregation. Upon retirement in 1988, he decided to pioneer and dedicated 70 hours a month to teaching others about having a personal relationship with Jehovah God. This was the career choice that Luther most enjoyed and was most proud of, sharing with others the Bible’s promise of a future paradise
Luther is predeceased by his wife Idella. He leaves many loving memories to cherish by his daughters Gwendolyn (Johnny) Smith, Michele (Anthony) Beeks, Elissa (Oliver) Sigler, sons Charles (Mary) Jones, Luther (Dawn) Rainer, Jr., and Jerry (Rose) Rainer.
