Eugene S. Turner, 89, of Rockford, IL, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016. Born on May 9, 1927 in Rockford, IL. Son of Leland and Florence (Gough) Turner. Veteran of the United States Army. Stationed in Germany. Was a Telephone and Telegraph Lineman. Stayed in a castle while in Germany where they used tin plates and steel cots. He would go to German villages for dark bread and chicory coffee. Married Jean L. O’Neill on November 22, 1956. She predeceased him on July 18, 1993. Married Donna L. Boken on August 27, 1994. After leaving the service he worked for Illinois Bell telephone climbing poles until he decided to enter the machine shop work force. Worked for Barbor Coleman for 11 years, REPCO for 8 years and for Majestic Tool for 23 years before retiring in 1989. Was a member of the American Legion and the Moose. He loved dancing especially polka and square dancing. Even was a square dance caller from 1950 until 1989. Loved to travel and loved to see the mountains.
Survivors include, spouse, Donna; daughter, Tamara (Brad) Erickson; step-daughters, Louise (Bob) Marx and Luann Hess; grandchildren, James (Sarah) Erickson, Robert Erickson; step-grandchildren, Michael Marx, Noella (Steve) Bierman, Terri (Jesse) Fonder, Jared Marx; great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Amelia Erickson; step-great-grandchildren, Lonnie, Devon and Mariah Bierman and Artemis Fonder; brothers, Roger (Anne) Turner, W. James (Myrna) Turner; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Service at 3 p.m. Friday, May 13 at Presence Cor Mariae Center, 3330 Marie Linden Dr. Rockford, IL. Private family burial.
