Elwood was born on April 28, 1944 in Roberts County, S.D. and moved to Rockford in 1957, he was the son of Sylvester and Agnes Collins Reed. He worked in maintenance for most of his life and retired due to health reasons. Elwood enjoyed the Chicago Cubs, fishing and playing the lottery, especially the scratch off tickets. Elwood was well known for his “Donkey Bray”.
Elwood is survived by his best friend and companion of 40 years Pat Rasmussen; daughter Joel; brothers Norman and Neil; sister Marlene (Denny) Mullendore; also surviving are grandchildren, nieces, nephews, special friend Dick Bailey and many extended family members of Pat Rasmussen; sister-in-law Joann Wilson.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, daughters Shelly and Melissa, brothers Willis, Darrell, Donald, Francis and Larry, sister Arleen Sampson.
A service to celebrate Elwood’s life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 9, 2013 at Advantage Funeral Home 7000 W. State St. in Rockford with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Willwood Cemetery.
