Edward Lee Thornton, 83 of Rockford, passed away November 18, 2014. Born August 25, 1931 in Earl, AR; he was the son of Alvin and Ida Reba (Smith) Thornton. He married Janice L. DeBaere on March 25, 1955 in Rockford.
A U.S. Army Veteran, he retired from National Lock Company after more than 30 years of employment.
He enjoyed spending his time fishing, watch boxing matches, playing pitch, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his sons, Larry (Sue), Jerry, Tommy (Brenda) Thornton; grandchildren, Sarah Villarruel, Megan (Aaron Smith), Amber, and Jason (Katie) Thornton; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Gene (Marge) Thornton; sister, Pernie (Bud) Borcherts; nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife, son, Billy; brother, Willie.
Funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, November 22nd at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State Street, Rockford; Pastor Wendell Maynard officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be submitted at advantagerockford.com
