Charles L. Thompson, Sr., 89, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Wednesday evening, August 24, 2022 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born in Freeport, IL, the son of Charles L. and Violet (Pownell) Thompson. He proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting when he was 16 years old. Charles was a machinist at various companies in Rockford, and he owned and operated Thompson’s Vacuum and Sewing. He was a Godly man, who was a member of Faith Center and Liberty Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed watching football, baseball and relaxing in his spare time.
Charles is survived by his children, Charles (Betty Jo) Thompson, Jr. and Roy Thompson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Rose Fair, Richard Thompson and Sandra Thyberg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, mother of his children Mary Ann Thompson, daughters Peggy Magnuson and Linda Anderson-Pozzi, siblings, Clarence M. Thompson, Clifford A. Thompson, Donald Thompson and Mary Visgar.
