Charles J. “Jerry” “Chuck” Girone, 74, of Rockford, IL, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Amberwood Care Center after a lengthy illness. He was born October 28, 1948 at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Chuck graduated from East High School, class of 1967 and joined the Marine Corp. He served in the Marine Corp from 1967-1971. He attended basic training at Camp Pendleton, CA, he also received training in firearms, crash crew, fire and rescue in Memphis. Chuck was stationed for a year in Okinawa, Japan. He was proud to have White House Clearance and worked Presidential Security for President Nixon while stationed at San Clemente, California. After his discharge, he worked at the VA Hospital in Ames, Iowa. Upon returning to Rockford, he worked as a Rockford Park District Officer. Charles attended classes at Rock Valley College and Northern Illinois University for Police Science. He was also an officer for the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department. Of all of the opportunities that Chuck had, he was most proud of being a Marine and an officer for the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office. Chuck was a longtime member of the Venetian Club, American Legion and the VFW.
Chuck is survived by his siblings, Jan Marlow, John Girone, Molly Devant and Jim (Diane) Olson; Aunt Mary Wineinger of Exitor, CA; best friend John Barrett of FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Girone and Elizabeth Olson and longtime best friend, Charlie Parrovechio.
