the late Mary McClendon. Willie was one of two children, with Lula McClendon being the
younger.
As time moved forward, Willie found employment working for Jones and Laughlin Steel
Company (J&L Steel), which was located in Aliquippa, PA, where he spent approximately 40
plus years as a dedicated employee. During his earlier years at J&L Steel, Willie also spent 4
years in the United States Army. During his 4 years in the Army, he was stationed abroad in
Germany and and here domestically in Colorado Spring, CO
As Willie spent time working at J & L Steel, he became friends with a co-worker named Willie
Davis. Willie Davis was married to Bessie B Noble’s oldest sister. Willie Davis introduced Willie
Carter to Bessie B Nobles on December 23, 1961 (which is today) Willie L Carter and Bessie B
Nobles were married in Midway, AL
One thing about Willie L Carter is that he loved the Lord. That is evident as he spent 50 plus
years being a member of First Baptist Church of Freedom, PA serving in different capacities,
such as being on the Usher Board as well as being one of the Trustees. He loved his church
family. He loved Wednesday night Bible Studies. This is something that he rarely missed. He
loved Sunday morning Sunday School. He loved Sunday church service. He also took pride and
loved being one of the individuals who cleaned the church and cut the grass on Saturdays.
When Willie wasn’t in church it was odd not to see him throughout the day sitting in his chair
reading and studying the Bible so that he could do his best to apply biblical principles to his life.
One of his goals in studying was to know these biblical principles so that he would be able to be
a blessing to others.
Willie L. Carter leaves to cherish in his memories his devoted wife of over 61 years, Bessie B
Carter of New Brighton, PA; three loving sons. Anthony (Tanissa) Carter Sr, of Beaver Falls,
PA, Eric (Jeanette) Carter, of New Brighton, PA, and Reginald (Theresa) Carter, Smyrna, DE.
He is also survived by his younger sister, Lula McClendon of Phoenix, AZ, 14 Grandchildren, 18
Great-Grandchildren, 1 Sister-in-Law in Tuskegee, AL (Beatrice Smith), 1 Sister-in-Law in Beaver Falls, PA (Ada Jones) and 1 Brother-in-Law in Birmingham, AL (Howard Taylor),
along with a host of other family members & friends.
