She was born August 20, 1946 in Ashtabula, OH, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Lazarski) Vargo, Sr. Known affectionately by family and friends as Sandy, she was a wonderfully caring person who enjoyed life to its fullest. In earlier years, she was a member of a bowling league at Baden Bowl. It was quite characteristic of her and her sister Carol to arrive wearing costumes if bowling night fell on a holiday. When she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Sandy brightened someone’s day during the Christmas season by showing-up dressed as Santa, delivering the meal accompanied by a small gift. Her kindness was always appreciated.
Her most valued treasure was the relationship she had with her husband Dale. They reached a milestone of 48 years of marriage on April 7th. Sandy and Dale were inseparable and blessed to have shared many common interests. Their passion for riding a motorcycle led them on the incredible adventure of logging over 100,000 miles from 1983 to 1995 visiting all of the contiguous United States. She was Dale’s “second set of eyes” as they traveled. A favorite experience was riding through the Smokey Mountains.
Sandy was an auxiliary member of the Unionville American Legion Post 512 and a member of Oak Grove Lutheran Church, Zelienople.
In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her brother-in-law: Clifford Charles Majors; and her nephew: Clifford Paul Majors, both passed in 2014.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband: Dale; her brother and sister-in-law: Joseph and Mary Kay Vargo, Jr., Economy Borough; her sister and brother-in-law: Carol and Joseph Tyhonas, Brighton Township; several nieces and nephews, extend family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 3, 2015 from 2 to 7 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Nathaneil Christman, officiating. Private interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
If desired, memorial contributions may be directed to Oak Grove Lutheran Church, 434 Harkins Mill Road, Zelienople, PA 16063. The family wishes to extend special thanks to their dear friend Jeanette McDonald for warm and compassionate care and to the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their assistance.
