Robert J. Vogel, age 86, passed away peacefully November 7, 2019. He was born in Rochester, PA and was the son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Dolnack) Vogel. He married former Katherine Mustalo Vogel in 1954 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2019.
He is survived by his wife, two children; Dr. Kimberly A. Vogel and Helen Lowry of Ft. Worth, Tx. and son Robert F. Vogel and M. Ellen Vogel of Crestview, Fl. He is a beloved grandfather to Robert Vogel and wife Kimberly (Russell) Vogel, of Orlando, Fl. and Nicholas D. and wife Brittany (Teays) of Stafford, VA; great grandfather to Camden and Kori. He is a brother to Verna and husband Kevin Hogan, of Rochester; Betty and husband Richard, of Monaca, and Peggy DeSimone of Waynesboro, Va.
He was a member of Local 66 Operating Engineers in Monroeville and retired after working for 44 years. Robert served in the 476th Army Reserves Co. for 8 years, appointed to the East Rochester zoning board, and became zoning officer as well as building inspector. He was elected to E.R. Council and served 4 terms, and was Mayor for 3 terms.
He joined the E.R. Fire Dept. and became assistant Fire Chief. Vogel is a life long member of St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church where he served as director of St. Cecilia youth organization and Dramatic Gould, had put on many plays, was an usher for 39 years, and served as Scout Master of Troop #421 of the Boy Scouts of America for 6 years.
Robert was appointed to the Beaver Co. Vo-Tech Authority and serves as Vice President to the Council of Governments.
He was an avid winemaker and loved spending his weekends with his wife and many friends at their summer place in Slippery Rock. He went many mornings, especially after he retired to the E. Rochester Hot Dog Shoppe to have coffee with the guys. Robert wanted to tell his children, Kim and Bob, his grandchildren Rob and Nick and their families, how very proud of them he is and how much they are loved.
A memorial mass with be held Wednesday at 10am at St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Parish, 632 Virginia Ave. Rochester, PA 15074. In lieu of flowers, family suggest that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, www.alzfdn.org/support-us/donate
