Ralph Frank Manzi, 88, of Ambridge, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 while under the compassionate care of his two sons and the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley. He was born March 24, 1926 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Frank and Josephine (Ferrara) Manzi. Ralph proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during WWII. Along with Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal, he was engaged in battles in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon; awarded three bronze battle stars for action in the Asiatic Pacific Theater; two bronze battle stars during the Philippine Liberation and three overseas service bars. Ralph was a member of the Baden American Legion Post 641.
Ralph was an iron worker with Local #3 and retired after 27 years of service. He was fearless as he worked on structural steel projects and was dedicated to the quality and safety of those projects.
In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Virginia (Davidson) Manzi in 2002 and his brother, Mike Manzi.
Ralph is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law; Larry (Tina) Manzi, Colorado; Russell Manzi, Mexico; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; his sister Rose Ricile and niece: JoAnn Olsen, Washington State; Pat and Don Gunther (niece and husband) Ambridge; special friend and companion: Benina Mogen and her family; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law through marriage: Don and Mary Jane Davidson, Chicago, IL; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Ralph (Mambo) Manzi will be remembered by those who knew him as a man who loved his family and friends, defended and loved his country, had a gift and passion for music and dance, was a sharp dresser and who, under all circumstances, lived his life his way.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the SSAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC, 273 Route 68, Rochester (GPS 848 Sunflower Road, adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum).
