Myrtle Murphy McCracken, 94, formerly of Rochester Township and Joseph Edwards Apartments, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 while residing at the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, South Beaver Township. She was born July 8, 1916 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late James and Lillian (Brodmerkle) Murphy. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In her younger years, Myrtle enjoyed crocheting, cooking and baking for family and friends. She was active in the Rochester and Monaca Senior Centers where she played in the kitchen band until going to Beaver Valley Nursing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Samuel McCracken; five sisters: Irene Zaweski, Ruth McLaughlin, Grace Phillips, Lillian Murphy and Betty Blishak; her brother: Lester Mayer; Great grandson: Carey W. Lightner; and three brothers-in-law: Frank Zaweski, Thomas McLaughlin and George Phillips.
Myrtle is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Nancy and Robert Mayhue, New Port Richey, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law: Randy and Rebecca McCracken, Rochester Township; Steve and Janine McCracken, Monaca; 12 grandchildren: Sharon Lightner, Christine Lucente both of New Sewickley Township; Joel Mayhue, Center Township; Timothy Mayhue, Robin Mayhue and Diana Shingleton, all of New Port Richey, FL; Rebecca McCracken, Prospect, PA; Rachel Clark, Rochester; Ryan McCracken, Rochester Township; Steven McCracken, Pittsburgh; Shawn Bailey, Hookstown and Andy McCracken, Monaca; 16 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brother and sister-in-law: Robert and Gertrude Murphy, Waxhaw, NC; and brother-in-law: Andrew Blishak, Beaver.
Friends will be received Friday, June 17, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home 10 a.m., Saturday with her nephew: The Reverend Donald G. Phillips, officiating. Private entombment will follow.
