Dr. John Stuart “Doc” Evans, 85, of Vanport, beloved and well respected Veterinarian, passed on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. He was born October 11, 1931 in Pittsburgh, son of the late Edward T. and Ida E. (Stuart) Evans. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He obtained his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 during his service in the Army Veterinary Corps.
Known affectionately by friends and family as “Doc” he practiced veterinary medicine up until just six years ago when he retired. Many throughout Beaver County will remember Doc at his practice with the Humane Society, or private practice at Five Points and Brady’s Run Veterinary Hospital. He was passionate about his profession and dedicated to providing loving care.
His interests were varied but he particularly enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. A few of his favorite destinations were the Amazon, Alaska and Africa; scuba diving in the beautiful waters of the Cayman Islands or St. Vincent and the Grenadines and snow skiing in Colorado.
In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded by his brother.
He is survived by his loving wife: Estelle (Murphy) Evans; four sons and daughters-in-law: John (Cyndi) Evans, Pittsburgh; Michael (Stacey) Evans, Lexington, MA; Richard (Denise) Evans, Charlotte, NC; Daniel “Dan” (Karen) Evans, Tigard, OR; one daughter and son-n-law: Kathleen (Dan) Griffee, Mead, CO; two daughters and sons-in-law through marriage: Melissa (Jeff) Baker, Moon Township; Dr. Sara (Joe) Forman, Monaca; and seven grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 2 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). His funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m., Saturday.
