Joan Hartman, 89, of Masonic Village, Sewickley, formerly of New Brighton, went home to be with the Lord on October 31, 2017. She was born July 15, 1928 in New Brighton, daughter of the late Monroe Ralph and Sidna Elizabeth (Miller) Best. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Joan was a retired human resource administrator for Kauffman’s.
In earlier years, she was a member of the Daugherty Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was a Past President. She was a gifted and talented artist, painting in pastels and on ceramic. A woman of deep faith Joan enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the hand bells. She loved the old familiar hymns of the church.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband: L. Mitchell Hartman in 1995; three sisters: Dorothy Hays; Edith Best and Betty Finch Kraus; her niece: Susan Hays and nephew: David Finch.
Joan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Mitchell R. (Linda) Hartman, Beaufort, SC; and her daughter: Patty (Doug Thompson) Weatherly, New Brighton; three grandchildren: Mitch (Sarina) Hartman, Goose Creek, SC; Kelly (Major Will, USMC) Messmer, Jamestown, RI; Dan (Melissa) Weatherly, Ellwood City; great grandchildren: Bennett Hartman; Ryan Messmer; Cameron Weatherly; Destiny and Dylan Cambio; three nieces: Judy (Max) Fowler; Nancy (Bill) Spratt; Susan Barton; one nephew: Gary (Cheri) Barton.
Friends will be received today, Friday, November 3, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 237 Route 68, Rochester (GPS 848 Sunflower Road, adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum).
