George “Bob” Labasik, 61, a life-long resident of Monaca and Center Township, passed unexpectedly on Sunday, May 10, 2015. He was born May 16, 1953 in Rochester, son of the late George Labasik and Ethel Mae (Sullivan) Labasik. Bob was an alumnus of Monaca High School, Class of 1971 and an active member of his community throughout his entire life.
Bob was a current employee of ATI, Oakdale Plant and was known to be a hardworking man with a meticulous attention to detail. Prior to ATI, Bob had worked at Horsehead Corporation with 42 years of service until they closed their doors in 2014. He proudly served as a member of the union board, was a member of the company fire department and was a group leader in the furnace department.
He was known by his friends as “Moose” as well as Bob, and everyone who knew him found Bob to be a devoted friend with a great sense of humor. He was the type of man who was willing to do anything for you to lend a helping hand.
Bob was a true family man, a beloved husband, father, son and grandfather. Surviving to mourn is loss are his wife of 40 years: Martha “Jane” Labasik; his mother: Ethel (Sullivan) Labasik; his son: Justin Labasik; his daughter and son-in-law: Lauren Marie and Zachary Skalko; his four grandchildren whom he adored, and they absolutely loved their pap pap: Calvin, Allie, Isaac and Henry Skalko, everyone of Center Township; his sister and brother-in-law: Carol and Jim Muehlman of Michigan.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2015 in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum).
