Eugene Leroy “Gene” Cox, Sr., 87 of West Mayfield, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 while under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice and Friendship Ridge. Gene was born October 14, 1926 in Beaver Falls, son of the late Everett Quinn and Martha (Schwartz) Cox. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Gene retired from the Hot Finish Department of the Beaver Falls Plant of Babcock and Wilcox after 39 years of service. He was a life member of over 50 years of the West Mayfield Volunteer Fire Department. Gene was also an active and traveling member of the Studebaker Club. He was the proud owner of a 1940 Studebaker Champion Coupe. He and Mildred shared the excitement of traveling to car shows throughout the United States. Gene was a former member West Mayfield Vets and the Beaver Falls Elks Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years: Mildred (Lawson) Cox in 2009; a daughter: Dorothy Jean Cox; daughter-in-law: Rosann Aquino Cox in 2007; four brothers: Thomas, Charles, Everett and Richard; and one sister: Marcie.
Gene is survived by five children and their spouses: Eugene Cox, Jr., Meadville, PA; Robert and Robyn Cox, West Mayfield; Mary and Robert Summers, Beaver Falls; John and Terri Cox, Patterson Township; David and Sharen Cox, Darlington; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law: William “Bill” Quinn (Karen) Cox, Ellwood City; two sisters: Louise Campagna, Eugene, OR; Dorothy Nixon, New Waterford, OH; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 29, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum). His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Grandview with committal prayers and Military Honors by the members of the Beaver County Special Unit.
