Born May 12, 1949, she was the daughter of late George Childress and Mary Morris Tenuto. She served during the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Army where she obtained her certification as an LPN. She met her husband of 46 years while serving and raised three children. Her dedication to her family and children was also modeled in the community as she volunteered many hours as a Brownie leader, a softball coach and as President of New Brighton Youth Softball League. She also enjoyed working with wood making various yard decorations.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Young, Sr.; her children, Heather (Joseph) Main of New Brighton, Kendra (Rich Melder) Young of New Brighton and Ken (Tiffany) Young, Jr. of Chippewa; her nine grandchildren, Sydney, Seth, Jensyn, Thomas, Kiersten, Austin, Madison, Chase and Mason; her two great-grandchildren, Paxton and Blake; her sisters, Linda Alberts, Francine Tenuto, Theresa Raiger and Nancy Olson.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Childress.
Friends will be received at the Marion Hill Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 4607 Rochester Rd, New Brighton on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 12 noon until time of service at 1pm with Pastor Jim Krause officiating. Full military honors will be presented by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Beaver County Chapter #862.
Private inurnment will take place at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.
