Anna Maria (Mastromauro) Indino, age 83, of Beaver falls passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2024 at Providence Care Center in Beaver Falls. Born on December 2, 1940, in Carato, Italy, Anna emigrated to the United States in 1960, where she began a new life in East Liberty, Pittsburgh, PA, after her marriage to the late Frank Indino. Learning the trade of seamstress in Italy, she continued to share her talents with her family and friends, making and mending clothing for any occasion. She took up trade work at Kaufmann’s Department Store, where she worked as a seamstress in the Fur Department. Later, she continued her service as a furrier at Green Valley Cleaners, replacing the linings in fur coats for another 15 years until her retirement. In her later years, Anna lived with each of her children, spending time first with David and Connie in Elizabeth, then with Sal and Debbie in Wilkinsburg, before moving to Hawaii with Linda and Matt. During this time, Anna suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accidental fall, which led to a diagnosis of Global Aphasia and Dementia in January 2021. She returned to Pennsylvania for good in May 2022 and resided with Mary Ann and David in Beaver Falls until her admission to the Adult Dementia Ward at Providence Care Center.
Anna is survived by her beloved family, two daughters and a son; Linda and Mathew Makela, David and Connie Indino, and Mary Ann and David P. Miller; grandchildren, David and Tony Indino, Sydney (Andrew Begley) and Camden Miller, and Michaela and Ray Indino. She is also remembered by her cherished sisters, Gilda Miro of Yonkers, NY, and Lucrezia Maggiulli of Carato, Bari, Italy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter in law; Salvator and Deb Indino and Frank Indino Jr.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Providence Care Center and Grane Hospice for their dedicated and loving care during Anna’s time there. They grew to love this feisty, spirited woman and will miss her dearly.
Anna will be remembered as a strong, independent, and deeply introspective woman who found solace and adventure in her love for reading. She was known to devour three to four novels a week, with books becoming her window to lands and times unknown. A devoted patron of local libraries, Anna cherished the opportunity to immerse herself in these worlds. She was equally passionate about the arts, enjoying local theater groups, symphony performances, musicals, and Billy Joel concerts. Her love for music was profound, as she often found peace in the melodies of classical music, especially the powerful voices of Pavarotti and other operatic greats. Fluent in both Italian and English, Anna’s connection to her Italian heritage remained strong, even though she never returned to Italy.
Family and friends are invited to honor Anna’s life at the SAUL-GABAUER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 273 Route 68, Rochester (adjacent to the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum) on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 3:00pm until the time of a Catholic Blessing Service at 6:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please visit, make use of, or make a donation to your local library in her honor.
