William P. Blum, Sr., of Irondequoit/Webster, died peacefully on February 24, 2019, at age 97. Survived by his cherished wife, Margaret, devoted children, Maryanne (Jack) Matejcik, Barbara (Peter) Robinson, William, Jr., stepchildren Donna Reed, Michael Reed, Thomas Reed, and Mark (Lee) Reed, his beloved grandchildren Jaclyn (Christian) Posta, Paul (Jennifer) Matejcik, Maureen (Jeffrey) Radcliffe, Jane (Hank Hibbert) Matejcik, William (Navah) Robinson, Ashley (Sean Tyree) Robinson, Ryan Reed and Christopher Reed, four great-grandchildren Maddy Posta, Claire Posta, Jack Matejcik, Nora Matejcik, and many adored nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 32 years, Mary (Carr) Blum; siblings, Frederick (Lucille) Blum, Margaret (Joseph) Polley, Edward (Jane and Lois) Blum; and niece, Donna (Blum) Kemp.
Bill was born on May 4, 1921 in Rochester, graduated from Aquinas Institute, Class of 1939. After graduation from St. Michael’s (University of Toronto), he began a distinguished 40-year career as a research chemist at the DPI Division of Eastman Kodak. A long-time resident of Irondequoit, he was a founding member of the Church of Christ the King. An avid golfer and bowler, he was a member of Craig Hill C.C., Ontario C.C., and Penfield C.C. He was also a six-decade member of Kodak’s bowling league.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at St. John’s Home for their compassionate care during his stay.
