Ed was born in Rochester, NY to Edward and Anna Stewart. He graduated from Edison Tech in 1964 and then proceeded to Machine Shop at RIT in 1969. He worked at General Dynamics from 1966 to 1970. From there he went on to Interstate Circuits as QC Manager and Group leader of fabrication tooling. He would then move on to his true passion as a bowling ball specialist, where he fitted and drilled bowling equipment for over 30 years at Gates Pro Shop. Ed dedicated his life to the Bowling Community. His passion for bowling continued throughout the rest of his life. Ed bowled in the USBC Open Championships for 49 years. He was a group leader and big supporter of the Lilac City Tournament, Western Central, Wild Irish Rose, Super Bowl & July High Roller in Las Vegas and so many other tournaments. Ed started the Flower City Fall classic in 2002 with his son Rich. He won several tournaments throughout the years; he bowled several honor scores which included 300 games and a 800 series. He was inducted in the RBA Hall of Fame in 1998. He touched the lives of so many people in the bowling community. He came out of retirement in 2021 to work at ABC Gates Bowl.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend to so many. His family, the bowling world and fishing were truly his pride and joy. His love, his laughter and his presence inside & out of Gates Bowl will be forever missed.
Ed is survived by his two sons: Richard P. (Christine Bartolone) Stewart, Robert (Lori) Stewart-Oechsle and granddaughter, Rachel A Stewart. Surviving siblings include Victoria LaMendola, his niece, Andrea (Bradley) Dayton and nephew, David LaMendola.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward P. Stewart and Anna (Gard) Galeazzi Stewart.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, August 14th, from 3-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home of ALVAH HALLORAN & SON, 2125 Chili Ave., Rochester, NY 14624. The family will receive family and friends again on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 9-10 a.m. at the Funeral Home, where a celebration of his life will be held immediately following at 10:00 a.m.
