Diane was born on April 27, 1937 to parents John and Marguerite Doran of Schuylerville, New York. Diane graduated with honors from Schuylerville High School in 1955. In addition to being a devoted mother, Diane spent many years working as a teacher’s aide in the Argyle Central School District and later as a secretary at the NY State Department of Corrections. In 1994, Diane and husband Bill Waterhouse relocated from Lake Luzerne, NY to Naples, Florida, where for the next 25 years they enjoyed their retirement to the fullest with an amazing circle of friends. One of Diane’s greatest joys while living there was her time spent at the beach, looking for sand dollars and other beautiful sea shells. Diane and Bill’s time in Florida was spent in the company of many dear friends, where cocktail hour started at 4pm sharp every day.
In the last 5 years of her life after the passing of her beloved husband Bill, Diane relocated to Canandaigua, New York to be closer to family and resided at Clark Meadows Assisted Living facility. Once there, Diane instantly made friends with all the residents and staff and quickly became part of the Clark Meadows family.
Among her many talents, Diane was an incredible athlete and competitor - tennis, bowling, and golf just to name a few, but her skills at cards and dominoes were unmatched and she proudly was known as ‘Queen Di’ by all who regularly lost to her at dominoes. One of her greatest attributes was being an amazing wife to husband Bill, as well as being a loving mother and grandmother to a large and loud brood of children, step-children and their families. “Grammie” most especially loved the time she spent with her many grandchildren.
Diane was known far and wide for her sharp mind, deeply competitive spirit, brilliant smile, athleticism, sense of humor and loving nature, tempered with a little ‘tough love’ when the situation called for it. If you were lucky enough to be loved by her, you would know this when she said “Thanks for being mine.” Mom, Gram, Diane, Sissy - you will be deeply missed.
Diane was fortunate to be surrounded by family in her final days at Hospeace House in Naples, NY. The family will gather together in Naples, Florida next spring to celebrate Diane’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospeace House, 7824 West Hollow Road, Naples, NY 14512 or FFT Senior Communities, 1 Ferris Hills, Canandaigua NY, 14424.
Arrangements entrusted to Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home, Rochester NY.
