Bess was musically talented, and at age 18, sang at the Paramount theatre in NYC which aired on the radio. She continued singing and dancing for our Military service members at the USO during World War II. In the 1950’s, she was a homemaker, while joining her Husband in many business ventures. In 1965, she worked as a store detective for Macy’s Department Store and “Broke the glass ceiling”, becoming one of the first female security department managers. She was credited with the most employee terminations due to theft. She kept the bullets for her firearm, wrapped in a silk scarf in her alligator handbag. When Bess was in her late 70’s and early 80’s, she had many adventures. She lived in Italy, camped in Tunisia and rode a camel, took an Alaskan cruise, went white water rafting and traveled to Paris, London and Stockholm. She celebrated her 80th Birthday by getting a tattoo of a martini and her 83rd Birthday skydiving. We are all privileged to have known and loved her and will miss her endless sarcasm and great sense of humor.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Bess' life during calling hours on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 5-7PM at the Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home, 2125 Chili Ave. Rochester, NY 14624.
