Tom was born the son of Edward and Margaret (Watson) Sayers in Detroit, Michigan on March 29, 1944. He graduated from Port Austin High School, class of 1962, and joined the US Army, serving state-side as a court reporter during the Vietnam War. Tom married Lois Kent on October 22, 1966, and they raised their family in North Branch and Sterling Heights. Tom finished his career as a Vice President and CEO in manufacturing retiring from Hofley Manufacturing. Tom saw an opportunity to serve first as a trainer for hospice and soon after as a pastor. Pastor Tom served at Howarth and Paint Creek Methodist Churches before retiring again at age 72. Pastor Tom then started Faith Community Christian Church meeting and worshiping together for the past seven years. Tom was also a member of the American Legion post in Port Austin, Michigan.
Tom loved sharing Jesus and helping others through his pastoral care. He enjoyed dressing as Santa Claus for nursing home residents and children. Tom loved his family and enjoyed coaching baseball for his children and grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Lois Sayers; children John Sayers, Jill (Kelly) Windelspecht, Luke (May) Sayers, and Mark Sayers; grandchildren Chloe Sayers, Evan Sayers, Alex Damm, Annaliese Damm, Corey Windelspecht, and Isaiah Sayers; sister Janet Meadows; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers Patrick Sayers and Brian Bubar.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 3-8 pm at Pixley Funeral Home located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. A funeral service will be held at 11am (10 am instate) on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, located at 1550 Walton Boulevard in Rochester, Michigan. The interment will be at Great Lakes Cemetery at a later date.
