Sallie was born the daughter of Joseph Walter Harwood Jr. and Olga (Knippel) Harwood on October 28, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio. Sallie earned her bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan University where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She met Victor Dorer Jr. through the Heights Christian Church choir in Shaker Heights and the two were married in 1950. They were married for 60 years.They lived in Euclid, Ohio until 1964 when they moved to Southfield, Michigan. Together they raised their three children.
Sallie and Vic were active members of Northbrook Presbyterian Church where each served as a deacon or elder. They also enjoyed the social aspects of the church by being members of the Mariners group and taking part in the church bowling league. They forged many strong friendships in the church over the years. Sallie was very honored to be named “Elder Emeritus” in recent years. She was a devoted member of the church for 60 years.
Sallie loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
Sallie was predeceased by her husband Victor K. Dorer Jr., her brother, Jack Walter Harwood, and her son-in-law, Daniel L. Knapp. She is survived by sons Victor K. Dorer III and David (Marcia) Dorer; daughter Barbara Knapp; grandchildren Wendy Dorer, Mallory Knapp Sweeney, Valerie Dorer, Hailey Knapp, and Dexter Dorer; and great-grandson Liam Sweeney.
