The world dims a bit as we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and veteran, Paul Christian Nielsen, who passed away peacefully on May 25, 2024, at the age of 74. Born in Berea, Ohio, he embarked on a journey that touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
A proud graduate of Central Michigan University, Paul was known for his intellectual curiosity that showed in his love for reading, watching history documentaries, and attending community lectures. It was at CMU that Paul met Nancy, the love of his life. They married in 1969 and graduated together in 1971.
For 54 years, Paul shared a love story that inspired all who witnessed it. His cherished wife was not just his partner, but his confidante, his best friend, and the anchor that steadied him through life's storms.
As a military policeman in the Army during the Vietnam War, Paul served his country with honor and courage while stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, for one year and three years in Clausen, Germany. His selfless sacrifice and dedication to duty will forever be remembered and cherished by a grateful nation.
As a father and grandfather, Paul demonstrated unwavering devotion, steadfast support and unconditional love. His three children and nine grandchildren were the source of his pride, instilling in them the values of honesty, integrity, and compassion. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be forever treasured.
Though he may no longer walk among us, Paul's spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His kindness, unwavering love, and service to his country will be cherished and remembered forever.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his children, Gretchen (Paul) Montey, Terri (Charlie) Olson and Paul Nielsen Jr. And from his children he is survived by his nine grandchildren, Cassidy, Cole, Carley, Madelyn, Elise, Lauren, Brandon, Sadie, and Cori. Paul is also survived by his sisters Janice (Barry) Nauroth and Gayle (Ray) Chapman. He is predeceased by his parents Paul and Rufine Nielsen and his sister and brother-in-law Ann and Bill Holzheuer.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
A memorial visitation for Paul will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, 38425 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038, in the mausoleum followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the graveside.
