Mary Rita McGowan

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Rita McGowan, lovingly known as “Rita”, who departed this life on February 18, 2025, at the age of 83. She was a cherished mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born on November 19, 1941, in Hancock, Michigan, Rita lived a life filled with grace, resilience, and generosity. She dedicated herself to her family, faith, and community, always offering a helping hand and a warm heart. Whether through her many years as a nurse, her devotion to giving home communion, or her love of RVing, bicycling, and walking her beloved dog, Lili, she left a lasting impact on those around her.

Rita is survived by her son Todd (Stacy), grandson Beckett, and sister Joyce Toth. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob, with whom she shared 43 wonderful years. She is also fondly remembered by many dear friends and neighbors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita’s memory to the OPC Social & Activity Center (650 Letica Dr., Rochester, MI 48307).

Though she is no longer with us, Rita’s love, strength, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
