Mary Ann (Krick) Merchant, 79 Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital with her loving family by her side on March 11, 2017. Mary Ann was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on April 13, 1937 to Irene and Albert Krick. She was the youngest of four children and grew up in a house that her dad built. She attended Butler High School and was a life-long Pittsburgh sports fan! After working for Pittsburgh Paints, Mary Ann followed her older brother Dave and moved to Michigan where she took a job at the General Motors headquarters in downtown Detroit as the Administrative Assistant for the V.P. of Marketing. While there, she met her husband, Paul, and they married in 1969. She left the corporate world to raise their two sons, Scott and Steve, and devoted her time to motherhood and volunteering at St. Regis and Brother Rice Catholic schools. She was instrumental in helping to organize the "Boys Bowl," an annual football game between rivals Brother Rice and Catholic Central.
Mary Ann loved traveling to many wonderful destinations around the world with her husband, Paul, always by her side. She enjoyed photography, reading, antiquing and volunteered for many years in the gift shop at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She also made one heck of a good cake! But she was most happy proudly cheering for her children and grandchildren at their many sporting events.
Mary Ann was devoted to her Catholic faith and made sure that our Lord always held a prominent place in her heart and in her home. Her unconditional love for her family and friends will never be forgotten. She is survived by Paul, her loving husband of 47 years, sons Scott (Amy) and Steve (Melissa), step-children Jeff (Nancy) and Julie (Ron), her brother, Dave (Peggy, deceased) and 9 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
