Leta was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John (Jack) S. Schmitt and her grandson, Joseph.
She was survived by her children: Karen (Fred) Parker, Richard (Nancy) Schmitt, Mary (David) Preston, Joanne (Adrian) Montanaro, Cathy (Dan) Maser, Thomas Schmitt and Michael (Colleen) Schmitt, as well as her sister; Mary (Bunny) Hoeppel. She is also lovingly remembered by her 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Leta was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 19, 1925 and moved to Michigan at the time of her marriage in 1946 where she resided until retiring to Homosassa, Florida in 1979, where she lived until Jack’s passing in 2007. She returned to Rochester Hills, MI in 2012 for the remainder of her life.
Leta enjoyed gardening, bridge, reading, bowling, golf and especially spending time with her family. She was most recently a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Rochester Hills, where she was a founding member.
A Mass of Resurrection, officiated by Fr. Brian Chabala, will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 10AM, with a memorial gathering beginning at 9:30AM at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 771 Old Perch Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48309.
