Leonard was born the son of Michael and Julia (Kaczmarek) Szymanski on March 29, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from St. Hedwig Catholic High School in Detroit, class of 1967. Leonard married Alexandra Abood on February 9th, 1980 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Detroit and they raised their family in Rochester Hills. Leonard was an electrician for Chrysler for 49 years and retired in 2016. He was a member of St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church.
Leonard loved his family and his religion. He enjoyed classic cars, traveling with his family, and hunting with his cousins.
Leonard is survived by his loving wife Alexandra; daughter Karen (Trevor) Dunham; grandchildren April and Wesley Dunham; nephews Jason (Heather) Abood and Brian Abood; brother-in-law Allen Abood; and many cousins & friends. Leonard was predeceased by his parents; his sister Geraldine Szymanski; and brother-in-law Arthur Abood.
Leonard’s family will welcome all to a visitation on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. (instate 10:30 a.m.) at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, located at 2675 John R Road, Rochester Hills, Michigan. Burial will on Saturday December 2, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Christian Memorial Gardens West Cemetery, located at 521 East Hamlin Road in Rochester Hills at.
