Love for his family; passion for his Catholic faith; benevolent support for multiple charities; spending time in northern Michigan, his Irish heritage, U of M football and challenging cross-word puzzles, John Edward Ryan, 89, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester, MI.
He leaves his loving wife of almost 14 years, Ursula (Skinner-Evo) Ryan, his son, Kevin Ryan (Judy); (John pre-deceased by daughter Paula Savoie (Jack); step-children Mark Evo; Jan Hall (Pat); William Evo (Greta Gatzke); Jill Murphy (Pat); Jody Bennett (Michael); Patrick Evo (Elizabeth); Aimee Husaynu (Randall); Malissa Henkelman (Eric); Matthew Evo (Nicole); Allison Guimond (Dave); 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Olean, NY, the son of Irish immigrants Edward C. Ryan and Mary (Keating) Ryan, he moved to Michigan for work and raised his family with his first wife Mary June McCartan (deceased in 2000) in Bloomfield Hills. After graduating from Olean High School, John attended St. Bonaventure University in New York and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business. He enlisted with the Army Air Guard in 1943 where he used his degree as a financial technical clerk in Shephard Field, TX. He was Honorably Discharged in December 1944.
John had the opportunity to join Burroughs Corporation (Unisys) where he had a successful career for 32 years in executive sales and retired as a board member.
