DOUMA, Jerald E., age 93, of Rochester Hills. Went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2020. He was born on May 21, 1926 in Stockton, California, son of the late James & Jennie Douma. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Wanda Douma; children Jim (Megan) Douma, Jerri (Randy) Gilbert, Jeff (Terri) Douma, and John (Sandy) Douma; 11 grandchildren,11 great grandchildren and a brother Byrn Douma. Jerald’s daughter Janet preceded him in death in 1956.
Jerald graduated from Lee High School in Grand Rapids, Calvin College, and earned his Master’s Degree from University of Michigan. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II and was stationed in the Pacific on the USS President Polk where he was a Higgins Boat Coxswain. Jerald fought in six campaigns including Okinawa, Iwo Jima, and the Battle of Leyte, earning numerous medals. He founded, and operated, Douma and Associates, an Executive Recruiting firm. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Royal Oak Businessmen’s golf league and was a scratch golfer, as well as having 2 hole-in-ones. Following retirement, he remained an active golfer who shot under his age on several occasions. He attended Meadowbrook Christian Church, and was a longtime member of Royal Oak Rotary Club. He was a strong supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous where he celebrated over 50 years of sobriety.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, 11:30 a.m. at Meadowbrook Christian Church, 2741 Walton Blvd., Rochester Hills. Pastor Steve Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous www.aa.org. Arrangements in care of Pixley Funeral Home, Rochester.
