MERCER, GEORGE DENNIS born January 23, 1949 died unexpectedly on July 19. Loving Husband of Connie Klix Mercer and inspiring father of Ian and Grant Mercer. Predeceased by brother Jeff and sister Karen Randazzo. Founded on his strong Catholic faith, George’s exemplary way of life will continue to be a guiding light for his eight nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.
George Mercer was the Chairman of the Real Estate department at the law firm of Giarmarco, Mullins & Horton, P.C. where he specialized in commercial and multi-family acquisitions, sales and financing. He was known for his deep knowledge of real estate law, tough negotiating and especially his pleasant demeanor, even in difficult deals. Clients relied heavily on his expert advice and new lawyers grew under his tutelage. George was a gentleman amongst gentlemen, known for his positive attitude, caring and thoughtfulness.
Connie, Ian and Grant were his first priorities. George developed a large circle of true friends spanning grade school to business. Always yearning for knowledge, George graduated from Bishop Gallagher High School, the University of Michigan and Wayne State Law School. He was a respected member of the alumni board of Sigma Phi fraternity, Ann Arbor. As an avid sports fan, golfer and stellar left-winger with a world class slap shot, George generated tremendous friendships. His love of trains, both model and full scale is well known from Detroit to Omaha. The Lake Michigan bluffs were a second home to George and those in his Saugatuck Circle remember his warmth and kindness.
George’s sense of humor, quick wit, as well as loving and considerate personality endeared him to his family and friends. A man of such qualities will be sorely missed by all those with whom he came in contact.
