

She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on December 27th, 1923. As a youth, Fern excelled as a dancer, sometimes performing professionally. She graduated from Westdale Collegiate High School and then went to McMaster University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1944. While there, she was Vice-President of her Senior class and a Lieutenant and Company Commander in the Women’s Red Cross Corps.
After graduation, Fern worked for the National Film Board of Canada, in Ottawa, and at radio station CHML, in Hamilton Ontario.
She married William (Bill) Richmond in 1950 and then devoted herself to raising two children. After stints in Akron Ohio, Burlington Ontario and Bethune France, they moved to Rochester Michigan in 1967.
For many years, Fern was an active player of duplicate contract bridge, reaching the status of life master, teaching bridge classes, and organizing a weekly duplicate bridge game in Rochester.
Fern has now joined her husband Bill (1920-2002) and her daughter Glenda (1954-1980).
She is survived by her son Randall (Randy) Richmond, daughter-in-law Josée Michaud, grandchildren Youri, Zoé, Ève and Maya Michaud-Richmond, her dear friend Andra Potter, grandchildren Daniel, Michael, and Jessica (Howell) Potter, their spouses and children.
Fern also leaves behind many cousins, nephews, nieces, very good friends and neighbors.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, August 4th, 2023 from 10am until the time of the memorial service at noon, at Pixley Funeral Home, located at 322 W. University Drive in downtown Rochester, Michigan. Interment will be at Mt. Avon Cemetery.
