Dolores “Dee” M. Halliday, age 91, died on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at her home in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Dee was born on July 7, 1926 in Throop, Pennsylvania to parents Margaret (Voros) Yuhas and Louis Yuhas, who was an anthracite coal miner. During the Great Depression, Dee’s family migrated to the Detroit area. It was there that Dee met her husband, Jim Halliday.
Dee was a vibrant, colorful woman with a great enthusiasm for life. She loved to be outside and was known for her skill at gardening and her love for birds. Some of her fondest memories include fishing in Sombra, Ontario, where she loved to vacation with her family. Dee was also an extremely skilled crafter, who could weave baskets, cane chairs, knit, and sew, among many other things.
More than anything else, Dee’s greatest love in life was her family. She is survived by her sons, Bruce (Connie) Halliday, Brian (Sondra) Halliday, and Jim Halliday; her grandchildren, Scott Halliday, Amanda (Edward) Cheladyn, Lindsay (Tyler) Nelson, and Erin (Bryan) Vandemark; her great-grandchildren, Silas, Mason, Mack, and Hazel; her siblings, Eugene (Virginia) Yuhas, and Carol (Harry) Gutowski; her sister-in-law, Sharon Yuhas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother (Douglas).
Dee will forever be remembered by her loved ones for her songs, her tap dancing, her New Year’s Eve parties with her granddaughters, her stories, and most of all, her ability to make everyone feel loved. She was always a “kid at heart” who was willing to try anything once and was never afraid of acting silly. Although Dee will be sorely missed, her legacy survives in the lives of those who loved her.
Dee’s family will welcome all for a visitation on Friday December 22nd, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home located at 322 West University Drive in downtown Rochester.
Donations may be made in Dee’s honor to Leader Dogs for the Blind online at www.leaderdog.org or by envelope at Pixley Funeral Home.
