Sharon, I'm thinking of you today.  I know it's been 4 years and you've gotten through the worst of mourning your loss.  I hope remembering now only brings sadness for what might have been, and happy memories of your time together.

I can still see Dave's affable smile and remember what a kind and thoughtful person he was.  He still is missed...

It doesn't seem possible that this younger cousin could have beat me to the next world..  I watched him grow up as I was his closest baby-sitting relative, along with his 3 other siblings.  Certainly hope Life was good to him when he was here.. We lost contact over the years as he lived in MI and I traveled from home (PA) to FL..   God Rest David.. You will always be remembered.. Just stopped by to light a candle and reflect on what a gentle soul David was.  I am glad that his family is doing well.

It's been several years and I still can't believe he hasn't outlived me, I remember his growing up years, we spent many hours and time together as I was his main babysitter, along with his other siblings.  And as cousins, we spent most holidays together at his grandparents home..   I hope his children and grandchildren have made many great memories of him, he was a sweetheart as I remember him.. Wow, I just found out about David's passing... I guess I'm more intune with this aspect of our lives, now that my husband Warren has also left this world...   So sorry.   (Can't get a response from his sister, so never knew.. ).. He was always one of my favorite cousins and I babysat him as a young child for a good part of his youth, along with his other siblings.   Too bad we couldn't stay in touch as it looks like we had more things in common as adults, then we had as children.. 
He died so young, I hope he didn't suffer...    Hugs from his big cousin Elaine..

My condolences to Dave's family on your loss.  I worked with Dave at GM Fleet and he was always the go to person.  He knew how to get things done that seemed impossible and always had the answer.  He was gracious with his time and would always help.  When he retired he was sorely missed at GM Fleet.  The Spence family will be in my prayers for comfort at this trying time.  

I met Dave when I joined the GM Fleet team.  He seemed to know everyone and was consulted by people across the company.  He was a go-to person, a problem solver - smart and generous with his time.  I, like so many others, was lucky to work with such a dedicated, intelligent, kind man.  My deepest sympathies to his family.  Rest in Peace Dave.

Dave was a coworker and great friend.  We worked on several difficult issues over the years in product development and fleet sales.  He was a creative problem solver who seemed to always pull the bunny out of the hat when needed.

Most importantly,  he and Sharon have been our friends for years.  We shared in family weddings, dinners, sporting events, travel and card games.  Dave will be missed.  Sharon - Peggy and I will always be your friends.

In 1979 a group of young parents and children moved into a new subdivision in Avon Hills now known as Rochester Hills, MI. 
The families worked on projects such as installing sprinkler systems, had parties, watched each other’s children and formed friendships that would last a lifetime.  The Spence’s were one of these families. 

David Spence was a modest man yet he had many accomplishments of which to be proud.  Chief among  these were his wife Sharon and children Matt and Laura.   He was a hardworking executive at General Motors.  He was the ultimate car guy. 

In recent years we  shared a number of Mexican vacations with Dave and Sharon.  Dave was always open to trying new experiences and was an enjoyable traveling companion.

Dave was a very smart man and extremely successful at General Motors!  He had a great work ethic and was a loyal employee!  But what I am-most impressed with is his family!  He was a dedicated husband and father!  Love for his family and their needs was always a priority in his life!  He will be missed and will have a place in the hearts of all that knew him!

  I first met Dave in 1984 when I went to Pontiac and he was one of the managers in Finance.  I was always impressed with his cool demeanor, knowledge of the business, and ability to work through issues with people.   I got to see him later in his career after he had moved over to the sales area and we would chat occasionally but he had remained the same person.  People liked Dave and always respected him.  A first class person that GM was lucky to have in any area as he was very devoted !  My deepest sympathies and condolences.

Before Dave married Sharon, when he was doing his internship at Pontiac, I got to visit him during a road trip with my boyfriend then.  We had double dated a couple times so the guys knew each other.  Since Dave had generously said we could spend the night at his place, we asked what he wanted us to bring from home. 
It was 3 specific things that he really wanted from his home town.   The one I remember for sure was Tastykakes.  We  brought 2 doz.  I think it was scrapple that we needed to have on ice, not sure.  The third thing was either soft pretzels or a specific brand of snack food--maybe Wise potato chips?  When we got there, before we unloaded the car, I remember Dave tearing into a package of Tastykakes.  
He was an excellent host and gave us pointers on what to see in Motown while he was at work.  We really enjoyed the Henry Ford museum in Dearborn, which we wouldn't have known about otherwise.  When he was telling us how to get around we learned about 7 Mile Rd, and 14 Mile Rd--leave it to "car city" to have road names that made sense.  And the traffic lights were actually timed for driving 5mph over the speed limit!!!  I couldn't get over that one...  (Philly's lights were timed for a "crawl", do the speed limit and you had to constantly break for red lights.)
I haven't seen Dave & Sharon, except on facebook, since they had their children.  But I well remember, and always enjoyed Dave's dry sense of humor and his generosity of spirit.  He was such a kind, caring soul.
Sharon & I go back even further--Miss Dorthy Brinkerhoff's 6th gr. class.  We struggled through teenage angst together and did brilliant things like putting straight peroxide on our hair and sitting in the sun to bring out the "highlights"--it took years for the brassiness to grow out..  I remember when Sharon first met Dave--I think it was a blind date, not sure because I wasn't involved, but they seemed like a good fit and I'm so glad they got married and lived "happily ever after."

David and Sharon have been wonderfully close and great friends for a very long time. We met when we moved next door to each other on Dressler Lane. Our boys grew up together, pledged the same fraternity and still keep up. David helped me in Lake Orion to set up and take down the sprinkler system each year and would drive out to help when I needed it. 
Dave loved people and we all loved him.  He will be missed!

Hi Sharon and Family,

You just can’t work for a guy for years and not get to know him well. 

I’m sure he came home with stories of his teams. Being a somewhat mischievous guy, I used to hand Dave hard copies of reports just to watch and see where he would place it in the tall stacks of paper on his desk. I would have it in my calendar to check weeks later to see if he could remember where he put it. He would sit and stare at his piles of paper contemplating where it was. Then his fingers would slide down the correct stack until they reached the right chronological distance and then separate a few pages and hand it to me. I would go make a copy and hand it back to him. He would then proceed to put it right back where he got it from. Cool, calm and collected he would go back to whatever fire drill he was working on. 

Most everyone gets upset some days. Not Dave. He kept his cool to a dull roar. It wasn’t until three admins tried to file all of his stacks of paper while he was on vacation that a part of Dave no one had ever seen came out. As Dave came in after vacation he saw his desk. Dave checked his name plate on the door to confirm it was his office. When he stuck in his key and the door opened reality set in. He was visibly upset and rightfully so. His computer like memory that could find everything he needed to do his job so well was gone.  Seated right outside his office, he looked at me to ask what happened. Since most messengers I knew at GM normally get shot for ratting on others, I knew I had to spill the beans quick or be considered collateral damage.  It didn’t take Dave long to spring into action. Most executives would have lost their cool and start yelling. But not Dave. Yes, he raised his voice. But who wouldn’t. Then he gathered the responsible parties to find out what they had done to him, or for him.  Dave always kept his cool in crisis mode. I turned down other jobs at GM just to work for him. Dave’s the Best!

Dave ... was one of my favorite bosses and a true joy to work for/with and he always had your back and was one of the hardest working guys I knew.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and got the best of me a number of times with his dry sense of humor and the ability to pull off some pretty creative pranks!!! (UBK - U.B. Kought). I worked with Dave in Product Planning and knew him before we worked together.  He was always kind and treated everyone with respect.  Knowing him is a good memory and most definitely a tribute to him.

I had the privilege of working with Dave during my early days at Pontiac Motor Division. He always took the time to educate a newbie — and was an absolute joy to work with. He was a big Eagles fan and I fondly remember our conversations. Dave was dedicated, loyal and the consummate professional 24/7. He worked hard and sweated every detail. GM was damn lucky to have him. Terrific guy — he will be missed. Rest In Peace Dave. And go Eagles!

Dave was a great teacher and helped many at General Motors learn the business.  I am deeply grateful for his friendship and willingness to help.  You will be missed good Sir.  Thank you for all you did for so many.
