The world lost an incredible man with the passing of Christopher Michael McCoy. “Family above all else” was Chris’ unfaltering belief and he lived this out daily. The “Top Gun” for Kristen, she agreed “to fly with him” and be his “wingman” for life. From the moment he saw her, Chris knew it was meant to be and his love for Kristen grew as his love stretched to include his step-daughter Payton. He did so much for those around him and loved to lead his family well. In his wisdom, Chris knew that you can’t take things with you when you go and so he made it his mission to be courageous and spontaneous, always up for an adventure, especially with Kristen and Payton. He loved being on vacation and exploring new places. An adventurer and amazing step-father, Chris and Payton once traveled for ice cream and encountered a cow that tried to take a nibble out of Payton’s toe, but thankfully Chris “felt the need” to give the cow a good thump on the head. You never quite knew what would happen when Chris was around, but it would definitely be a crazy, unique adventure!
Of course, family first for Chris, but the Lions and Red Wings were certainly close to the top of his list of priorities. Active and athletic himself, he had an unmatched passion for watching his favorite sports. Some might even call his love for the Lions a bit fanatical! Chris’ love for sports developed from a young age, spurred along by watching with his dad as the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup. Of course, it meant staying up past his bedtime that night, but was well worth it! His passion for sports, especially hockey, golf, and football, continued into adulthood, and showed all the more when he adopted his beloved English Bulldog whom he aptly named Megatron.
A faithful fan of Monty Python, those close to Chris knew that his quest was to always have those around him feel special and cared for and his business, Essential Advocates, became his holy grail. He loved that his business was a way to provide and care for his family and for his clients. No small feat, Chris poured his time and energy into his work, building this company from the ground up. After a hard day of work growing his company, Chris loved to relax with a fine cigar and a good bourbon. He took to heart the words from Monty Python, “We dine well here in Camelot/we eat ham and jam and spam a lot.” Although, in truth, his taste in food ran a little finer than spam, more along the lines of lobster tail and whitefish with a great glass of wine. Given how hard Chris worked caring for those around him, he certainly earned some fine dining at the end of the day.
