Nick was born on Oct. 20, 1947 in Harrisburg, Ill., to the late John Riden and Imogene Riden (Gullett). He is survived by Pamela Riden (Moro), his wife of almost 49 years; children Carla (Eric) and Nathan Riden (wife Erin); grandchildren Austin, Elise and Grant; sisters Cecelia Saylor (husband Dan), Cindy Ulbrich (husband Craige), and Camille “Missy” Cox (husband Monte); along with additional nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A veteran of the United States Army and 4th Infantry, Nick served in the Vietnam War where he was wounded in 1969 and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was certified as a sharpshooter and earned the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal before he was honorably discharged on Nov. 21, 1969.
He graduated with honors from Macomb Community College in 1973 with an Associates of Technology in Surveying. He worked as a land surveyor with Urban Land Consultants upon graduation before retiring in 2006.
Nick enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, fishing and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
