Betsy Ann (Buckley) Wallace, 91, of Troy, Michigan went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. Betsy was born on June 1, 1928, in Muskegon, MI. She was the daughter of Charles and Bernice (Heuser) Buckley. She grew up in Highland Park, attending St. Benedict High School. After high school, Betsy met her husband, John B. Wallace and they were married at St. Benedict Church in Highland Park on February 25, 1949. The couple made their home and raised a family in Detroit, MI. They were faithful members of St. Gerard Parish (Corpus Christi). Betsy was an accomplished sewer her whole life, and as the children got older she starting quilting, a passion that continued through to her final days. She was a gifted quilter, winning local and national awards for her beautiful creations. Many of her works were published in national quilting publications.
Upon retirement, Betsy and John moved to Indian River, Michigan where they were active members of the National Shrine of Cross in the Woods. When John passed in 2012, Betsy remained in the Indian River area until 2015, when she moved downstate to be closer to her family that she loved so much.
Betsy is survived by her children Laura Wallace of Ann Arbor, MI; John B. (Jill) Wallace of Detroit, MI; Donald Wallace of Roseville, MI; Marie (Jay) Bennett of Houston, TX; Marti Wallace of Royal Oak, MI; Amy (Scott) Schuster of Rochester Hills, MI; and Christine (Jim) Schultz of Pleasant Ridge, MI. Grandchildren include Rebecca Katz, Sara Wiener, Abby Wallace, Andrew Bennett, Karl Schuster, William Schuster, Megan Schultz, Benjamin Schultz, and Jane Schultz, along with one great-grandchild, Cobin Katz. Betsy has one surviving sister who was very dear to her heart, Jane West from Novi, MI. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, John B. Wallace, and a brother, Larry Buckley. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
Betsy will lie in state on Thursday, August 8 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Hills Church in Rochester Hills, MI. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., also at the church. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 9 at 12 PM at Cross in the Woods in Indian River, MI, with burial taking place following the Memorial Mass at Cross in the Woods Cemetery at 1 PM.
