Alice Adele Burke

Our deeply beloved Alice Adele Burke, age 88, of Rochester, MI passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 after a short illness. Born December 10, 1932 on the EastSide of Detroit, Alice was the youngest of 3 siblings. She is survived by her children, Brian, Bradley, Brenda (Hewett); Son-In-Law Scott Hewett, and granddaughter Emily Hewett. Alice wed Dale Burke of Royal Oak, MI, in March of 1958 and they remained together for 61 years until Dale’s passing in November of 2019. Alice was a happy homemaker. She loved to cook and collected an enormous amount of cookbooks. She was a fierce, merciless Scrabble player. Alice loved to play the piano and had since childhood. She had exceptional handwriting and dabbled in watercolors and acrylics. She had a crocheting phase in the 70’s and many blankets and items were around the house for many years. She was a devoted Catholic and would emphatically argue with anyone about doctrine. She held fast to her beliefs. She travelled to Israel several years ago and was deeply moved by the experience. Alice and Dale created a home in Oakland Township. A home that every neighbor kid knew was a safe harbor - no matter the hour. They never judged anyone. The backdoor was always open and any number of kids and animals would be around and food offered. Alice joined many groups and moved from one to the other often over the years, while making lots of friends. Alice was a delight to be around in social circles and had a wonderful laugh. She was fiercely devoted to her friends. If you were her friend, she’s deeply imprinted in your heart. In her later years she could often be found in her favorite chair with a fluffy cat sleeping on her stomach, nose to nose. All who loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, stubbornness, humor, love, and friendship.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, from 4-8 PM at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr, Rochester, MI. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 10 AM, with gathering beginning at 9:30 AM, at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr, Rochester, MI. Alice will be laid to rest at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Rochester, MI.
