Kenneth Hudson Roberson, Sr. 87, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at his home. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at the Everett- Roberson Cemetery, Everett Road Robersonville.
Kenneth, son of Joseph and Callie Brown Roberson, lived his entire life at the home in which he was born. Farming was his life. A World War II veteran, he was critically wounded in Okinawa and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He married Bennette Wilson Roberson on June 29, 1947. He was a charter member of the Robersonville Ruritan Club and served as a member of the Martin County School Board. Very active in farming organizations, he served on various boards and became involved in state and local politics. He served 8 years on the North Carolina Department of Transportation Board under Governor Jim Holshouser and Governor Jim Martin. He was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by governor Holshouser. He was the owner and operator of Hardee’s Warehouse in Robersonville until 2001.
In addition to his parents, his sisters Carrie Lee Martin, Hilda Ray Roberson, Brownie Highsmith and Christine Hurst preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bennette Wilson Roberson, his children, Kenneth Hudson Roberson Jr. and wife Vicky of Robersonville, Trudy Clark and husband Wayne of Ocracoke, Joy Roberson and husband Dennis of Bethel, Timothy Wilson Roberson and wife Amy of Robersonville, Henry Baker Roberson and wife Beverly of Robersonville, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, brother Hoke Smith Roberson Sr. of Windsor, sister-in-laws, Dot Egli and husband Glenn of Orange CA, Ann Schreiber and husband Georg of Albuquerque NM, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8:00 PM at Biggs Funeral Home in Robersonville and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the Robersonville Ruritan Club Scholarship Fund, Robersonville Rescue Squad or a charity of your choice.
