Josephine Blankenship, age 84, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Josephine (Jo) Blankenship, our dear sister born Sept 1, 1940 in Iaeger, WV. Passed away Sept 22, 2024.
Jo began her service in 1960 with the city of Salem, Virginia, becoming and serving as City Treasurer beginning July 1978 until retirement in September 2004. Jo was President of the Virginia Treasurers Association 1993-1994. Retiring after 44 years, she continued her dedicated service to Salem through several projects, including the restoration of the Salem History Museum.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Bessie Blankenship, her sister, Betty Ewing and her brother, Reggie Blankenship. She is survived by her brother, Ron Blankenship (Judy), and sister, Marsha Goch (Chuck). She is also survived by brother-in-law, Bill Ewing; nieces, Ann Ruel (Jim), Susan Kelly, Beth Enos (Paul), and Jessica Evans, as well as nephews David Ewing (Rekha), Adam Goch (Caroline) and Michael Pace, and many grand-nieces and nephew.
We invite you to join us to celebrate Jo’s life Friday, September 27, 2024 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5731 Airport Road. Visitation is at 9:00 am, followed by service at 10:00 am.
