On Friday, October 11, 2024, Richard “Dick” Martell Jackson, age 88, passed peacefully from this life and joined family and friends on the other side. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Dick found a love for nature exploring the surrounding foothills and mountains. He graduated from East High School, winning a football state championship. Following high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to London England, which influenced his career path in communications and sales. His career took him to Seattle, Washington; Caldwell, Idaho; and Salt Lake City, Utah. His incredible talent with the pen was highlighted in everything from award-winning editorials to birthday cards. These experiences, opportunities, and the people he met along the way provided cherished memories that Dick always held close to his heart.
Throughout his life, Dick had a passion and deep connection with everything from the garden to the barn. Whether the smell of fresh sage after rain or being one of the few people that didn’t mind stepping in a cow pie, his passion provided many experiences that brought great joy to his life. From horses, cattle and annual rodeos, his journey was filled with memories created with the people he loved. He is remembered for his kind heart, warm smile, comforting nature and unique ability to help others recognize the good in themselves.
He is survived by his children Lisa Richardson (Matthew), Dana Roberts (Mike) and Joe Jackson (Payslie), his twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren (with one more on the way).
Dick is also survived by his siblings Marnie Clawson (Truman), John Jackson (Ann), Doug Jackson, and Dave Jackson (Teresa).
He was preceded in death by his parents Junius Martell Jackson and Margaret Romney, and his sister-in-law Joan Jackson.
A service to honor Dick will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Millcreek, Utah on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family kindly requests that you spend time with those you love.
Until we meet again, Dad—but for now—go enjoy a long, well deserved, sunset-filled ride.
