Juan Ignacio Pelaez-Gary, age 83, of South Jordan, Utah passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022. He was born February 1, 1939 in Mexico City, Mexico to Juan Celestino Pelaez Palacio and Maristela Gary Soberanes. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Humphries Pelaez, children: Juan David (Julie) Pelaez, Carol (Justin) Pettit, Joseph (Annie) Pelaez and nine wonderful grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters: Alicia Pelaez and Yolanda Pelaez Rodriquez.
Juan served a full-time mission in Mexico for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1961. In 1965 Juan received an Accounting degree from the Instituto Politecnico Nacional in Mexico City. In 1966, he came to Utah to attend Brigham Young University on scholarship. He married Virginia Humphries in 1967 in the Oakland California LDS Temple. He received a Bachelor of Arts from BYU in 1967 and later went on to receive a Master's degree from the University of Utah in 1972 in Business Administration.
Career: Seminary Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico City. Human Resource Director for the State of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. Training Coordinator for Kerr McGee Nuclear Corporation in Grants, New Mexico. Director of HR Training for The Intermountain Power Plant in Delta, Utah. Utah & Wyoming State Director, U.S. Department of Labor.
Juan became a proud citizen of the United States of America in 1985. He dedicated his life to family, genealogy, and his career. His many talents included singing and playing the accordion, harmonica, and guitar. He enjoyed playing football, basketball, volleyball and watching boxing.
A visitation for Juan will be held Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at Family Funeral Care, 13001 South 3600 West, Riverton, Utah 84065. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park South Valley, 13001 South 3600 West, Riverton, Utah 84065.
