Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry “Porky” Lawrence, siblings Ruby DeRuse, Betty Guglielmana, George Winfield and Thomas Winfield. She is survived by her sister Dorothy DeJong, son Thomas Lawrence and wife Gloria of Chino, daughters Janice Olson and husband Dan of New Mexico, Beverly Morgado and husband Bob of Idaho and Marilyn “Mickey” Lawrence-Warm and husband Mark of Norco. She is also survived by 9 adoring grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
At an early age, Virginia moved with her family to the So. California area. She attended school in Artesia, graduating from Excelsior Union High School in 1942. After graduation, she worked as a riveter at Douglas Aircraft, an escrow officer at a bank and legal secretary in an attorney’s office before becoming a school bus driver for the Artesia/Bellflower/Carmenita (ABC) Unified School district.
During this same time, Virginia and her husband, operated a trucking company, hauling hay to the local dairies. When the dairies started moving east, they moved the family to Chino. Virginia still continued to drive school bus, retiring after 18 years with the district in 1970. From then, she and Henry continued to operate HTV Trucking Company, on Riverside Drive in Chino. After Henry’s death in 1982, she continued to operate the trucking company with their son Tom.
Poor health forced her retirement from the trucking company, but she could still be found at the ball park, doing what she liked best……. watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball. Their biggest fan was loved so much and will be missed.
Memorial services and buriel will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Pierce Bros. Crestlawn Memorial Park, 11500 Arlington Avenue, Riverside. Viewing will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00PM when the service will begin.
