For beloved Sandy

My friendship with Sandy started back in 1990 when Sandy returned to Woodcrest Christian School, Riverside CA to teach 8th grade English and I was first hired to teach high school science classes.  That 1991 yearbook states that, ‘During her absence from WCS, God impressed on her that “He will never leave or forsake her.”’ My early memories of our budding friendship included helping one another set up our classrooms for the new school year.  One fall, Sandy had the idea to create this huge, wall and room corner covering tree made out of paper.  It stretched from floor to ceiling, branches coming out everywhere and Sandy used it to illustrate many Biblical truths throughout that year. During those early years, I learned that Sandy had a special knack for supporting the students who struggled with reading and writing and she later shared with me that she had struggled in some of those same ways as a child, so she knew what it was like and knew how to help.  
Sandy also had a desire to encourage us in our walks with the Lord.  More than once, she hosted small group women’s Bible studies in her home.  A woman of God’s Word, she always had a Bible verse to share. Two of her favorites were,”I can do all things, through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13 and“He is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us…” Ephesians 3:20. She also loved the Old Testament and spoke fondly of her trip to Israel.
She loved animals, little ones that would come to visit in her yard and the sweet dogs that she rescued.   I adored her sense of adventure and always appreciated her wise counsel and prayer for my life.  I am so grateful to have known Sandy as a friend for these many years and navigated the ups and downs of life with our shared faith in God and personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
