Rose Mary (Servatius) Marks, age 92, passed away on March 2, 2023 at Integrated Care Communities in Moreno Valley, California. Rose Mary was born in Ontario, Oregon and raised in Weiser Idaho where she graduated from Weiser High School. She was a resident of Riverside California for 64 years and graduated from Riverside Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice in 1974. She worked at the Police Academy of Riverside Community College for 24 years, retiring in 1993. She liked to travel extensively travel all over the world and was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Riverside.
Rose Mary was married to Dr. Lowell Jordan for 30 years. The marriage ended, and she married Clifford Marks in 1984. He preceded her in death in 2001.
She is survived by her 4 children, Gary Jordan of Moreno Valley, James & Deovina Jordan of Murrieta, Diane Hankla of Ben Lomond, and Sharon & Tracy Luster of Riverside. She is also survived by her brother Gene & Mary Servatius of Boise, ID, sisters Esther Kyle of Weiser, ID and Patricia & Richard Hansen of Boise, ID. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Sr. and Rose Servatius, her brother Joe Servatius Jr., and her sisters Teresa (Servatius) Maestas, and Joan (Servatius) Burdick.
Memorial Service will be held at Riverside National Cemetery. Interment will be private.
Biography:
Rose Mary Marks was born in Oregon to Rose and Joseph Servatius Sr. Rose Mary grew up with six siblings on a farm in Idaho. She had many fond memories of her entire family at the round table, eating delicious dinners in that cozy kitchen. Rose Mary was proud to be in the high school band and proud to graduate from Weiser High School.
Rose Mary was married to Lowell Jordan for 30 years. While Lowell pursued a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology, Rose Mary worked at various colleges to support their growing family. Together, they had four children. After Lowell accepted a teaching and research position at the University of California, Riverside, Rose Mary settled into a life as a professor’s wife. Later, Rose Mary resumed her own career in the workplace, working at the Riverside Sheriff’s Academy.
Through Riverside City College (RCC,) Rose Mary worked for the Administration of Justice Department at the Police Academy for 24 years, seeing 85 basic classes graduate. Additionally, Rose Mary earned a degree in Criminal Justice from RCC in 1974. Her education continued from RCC to California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). Rose Mary earned credit from CSULA as she toured Europe three times, visiting police departments.
Life continued to change. Lowell and Rose Mary’s marriage ended in divorce. Rose Mary met Clifford Marks later, and they married. Rose Mary and Cliff especially enjoyed camping with family and friends in their motorhome. They shared a special love of their dogs and the desert. When Rose Mary retired from the Sheriff’s Academy in 1993, she saw that as an opportunity to pursue other goals.
Rose Mary was an anchor in her local community. She enjoyed working as a volunteer at the Ministry Center and also attending Bible classes. Rose Mary actively participated in many activities at the Janet Goeske Senior Center. She especially enjoyed line dancing and playing cards with her friends.
Growing up a Catholic, Rose Mary greatly valued her faith. Her faith, her family and her friends helped her during difficult times. In 2001, Cliff preceded her in death. In Riverside, Rose Mary was an active member of Saint Catherine’s Catholic Church.
When Rose Mary was not involved with local community activities, she enjoyed traveling. Rose Mary traveled across the globe. She visited Hong Kong, China, Canada, Mexico, Hungary, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Tunisia, Malta, Greece, Germany, Belgium, England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Gibraltar, Morocco and the Netherlands. In the United States, Rose Mary also traveled to Wisconsin, Illinois, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Montana, among other states and places of interest.
Along with a love of travel, Rose Mary loved to interact with her family and numerous friends. She was sweet and generous to her family and friends. Throughout the years, Rose Mary happily hosted many holiday gatherings at her home in Riverside. She created many positive moments for her family and friends.
