Robert Rodriguez, age 70, passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 6, 2023. He was the late son of Robert and Freda Rodriguez. Robert was born in Pomona, CA and raised in Riverside, CA. He attended Norte Vista High School and achieved numerous accomplishments in both cross country and track and field before graduating in 1971. While running for NVHS, Robert was a standout athlete and even set school records. He was eventually inducted into Norte Vista High School’s athletic hall of fame for his many accolades in cross country. Robert continued to run collegiately while attending Riverside Community College and participated in marathons as well.
Robert started his career as a firefighter for 5 years where he mainly worked in the forest division. Overnight shifts and days away from his family would influence Robert to change career paths. In 1971, Robert found work as a Landscaper for RCB and Sons where he would ultimately retire after 50 years of dedication. Despite long and difficult working days, Robert would always find time for his family.
Robert was loved by many friends and family. He loved family gatherings and always looked forward to any outings that involved his grandkids. They were his everything and you would always see him with a smile that stretched from ear to ear when they were around. Robert loved watching sports of all kinds but his favorite sports team to watch were the Dodgers. As a huge Dodger’s fan, one of his greatest memories was riding in a party bus to Dodger’s stadium with his family to a game. He loved sharing moments like these with his family and would do anything for them. He would not hesitate to lend a helping hand to not just his family, but to anyone who may have needed it. Robert was known to put others first and always lived life to the fullest.
Robert is survived by his wife of 48 years, Becky Rodriguez, 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren: His son Robert Jr. and wife Yesenia, son Ruben and partner Erika, daughter Roberta and husband Sergio, grandchildren Julien, Vanessa, Adrian, Breanna, Robert III, Anthony, Ricky, and Mia, and great-grandchildren James and Gage.
